题目:Causes and Consequences of Residential Segregation in Metropolitan America.
摘要:The talk will describe trends and patterns of residential segregation for blacks, Hispanics, and Asians from 1970 through 2010, noting in particular the persistence of high levels of segregation for African Americans and the rising spatial isolation of Hispanics in key metro areas, compared with moderate levels of segregation and low levels of isolation observed for Asians. As a consequence of segregation by class as well as race and ethnicity, blacks and Hispanics experience high spatial concentrations of poverty while whites and Asians more often experience high concentrations of affluence. One result of prolonged exposure to high concentrations of poverty and disadvantage is the attenuation of telomeres, chromatin clusters at the end of chromosomes whose premature shortening is a harbinger of health problems later in the life course.
