摘要：The consequence of social (im)mobility has been an important research subject for social stratification scholars. Empirical investigations of mobility effect have long been hindered by major methodological limitations. In this talk, I review the statistical problems faced by students of mobility effect, and lay out the possible paths forward for investigating mobility effect at both the individual and at the society level. The proposed methods will be illustrated with the analyses of mobility effects on health, fertility, and income inequality, using data from the United States. The talk will be concluded by a discussion of the relevance of the proposal to general social stratification research. Our proposal bridges the macro and the micro tradition of social stratification study in both substantive and methodological terms.
