摘要
Historically, one of the most prominent and enduring forms of health disparities in urban areas has been geographic health disparities. Communicable diseases often spread in accordance with geographical conditions, while chronic diseases persistently afflict impoverished urban neighborhoods, where conventional interventions have proven largely ineffective in the United States. Dr. Lin draws upon his prior urban health research in a medium-sized city to discuss these issues. Given that the majority of chronic diseases have multiple underlying causes, a focus on isolated causal relationships or inferences typically does not lead to successful intervention. He also discusses urban housing, social and service functions that contribute to urban health.
