Intergenerational relation has been established as an important determinant of subjective wellbeing, as it is the site where emotional connections, companionship, and physical and financial support are exchanged. However, recent literature has predominantly focused on the link between intergenerational relations and the elderly’s or children's wellbeing, while the subjective wellbeing of adult children remains understudied. In this study, we examine how coresidence with parents or parents-in-law shapes the subjective wellbeing of the adult children, using fixed-effects models based on panel data from 2010 and 2014 China Family Panel Studies. We find that intergenerational coresidence is significantly linked to adult children’s subjective wellbeing. The relationship is largely gendered and varies across stages of the life course.
